Developing Potential

The progress of pupils is monitored closely to ensure that all girls are engaging with their learning and developing appropriately in all areas of the curriculum.

The Head of each Key Stage provides an opportunity for girls to reflect on their learning, to discuss strategies to help learning and, where appropriate, to set targets or decide on an action plan. Girls in Years 11-13 are also supported by Personal Tutors.

The Head of Creative and Critical Thinking works with teachers to help all girls become flexible thinkers and independent learners through their lessons.

The Assistant Head – Learning and Communication is responsible for the introduction of new initiatives, the Scholars' Programme and our virtual learning environment.

Class Sizes and Setting

Girls of all abilities benefit from small classes and an excellent teacher to pupil ratio. In Key Stage 3 classes rarely exceed 18 and examination classes are considerably smaller. Class sizes ensure that value is added to each girl's achievements whatever her ability.

On entry girls are set in Maths, English, Science and ICT based on their entrance test results. In Modern Languages, girls study French, Spanish and German for one term before choosing between Spanish and German, they are also set for French at this point. Sets are regularly reviewed to ensure all girls are in the appropriate class for their ability.
