All courses from year 7 up to A level are based upon the development
of strong drawing skills through observed drawing. Work is then further
developed through painting, print-making, ceramics, textiles and
photography.
The department considers it an essential part of art and design
education that girls should experience works of art and architecture at
first hand, therefore frequent visits are arranged to London galleries
as well as site specific works around the country. Art Club for the
junior girls and Life Drawing classes for the Sixth form further
supports the work of the department.
We are a department that maintains a reputation for excellence with girls taking GCSE and AS/A Level achieving the highest grades. The department is well equipped and resourced and, since moving to its present site in 2003, has enjoyed on-going success at all levels and has this year won the Good Schools Guide A Level Award for Girls taking Art & Design at an English school.
