The Young Enterprise programme is an exciting and practical business experience. It provide students with a basic understanding of the way in which a business is organised and managed, as well as developing skills such as team work, communication, decision making and time management; all of which are valued by employers and higher educational institutions.Young Enterprise offers students the opportunity to run a real company and to learn about aspects of business first-hand.
The scheme helps students to develop the attitudes and skills for enterprise, personal success, lifelong learning and employability. Girls take part in ‘Project Business', which is designed to give students a practical, activity based insight into economic and business life. The sessions give practical introductions to a wide range of subjects - from outlining how a market economy operates to discussing the role of advertising.
As a result of participating in ‘Project Business' students:
- Discover how the British Economy works
- Understand how business works and how wealth is created
- Experience business life in their own community
- Understand consumer rights and responsibilities
- Develop team working, communication and presentation skills
- Learn money management skills and gain an understanding of banking
- Gain an insight into the working life and career of a local business person
- Build a bridge between school and the business world
- Review the scope of potential career opportunities
In Year 12, at the start of the academic year, girls form their companies, elect their officers, and decide on a company name and what products they will manufacture. These products are then designed, manufactured and sold for profit. Detailed accounts are kept and the companies' results are reported on and judged in the spring term – the best company wins the coveted Rose Bowl
