Volunteering

Community service forms an important part of each girl's education. Participation in the scheme fosters a sense of responsibility and the opportunity to devote time and attention to help others enhances a girl's appreciation and understanding of the wider community in which she lives.

The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme is very popular at Princess Helena College with over 35 girls receiving awards last year. The Scheme is run as part of the Hertfordshire Consortium and so girls take part with pupils from other schools in the area in their expeditions and training.  Expeditions include trips to the Peak District, cycling in Holland and horse riding in the Brecon Beacons.

Girls regularly continue through the Scheme to achieve their Gold Awards and they receive full support and guidance from the school throughout.

Clubs and Activities

Princess Helena College offers an exciting array of extra curricular activities and clubs. Girls can choose to join in with these activities either during their extended lunch break or in the early evening. Work Experience

Work experience is a very valuable activity for our pupils and we encourage girls to make the very most of these opportunities. Work Experience takes place for all of Year 10 in the autumn term and is followed by a presentation evening to parents and employers.

From Year 10 onwards, we encourage girls to continue with work placements, experience and shadowing during their holidays.

Girls in Years 10 - 13 are also invited to our termly Seminar Suppers. These cover areas such as Law, Media, Languages, the Sciences and the Services and it gives the chance for girls to meet with people working in these areas. This is a great format which encourages lots of discussion, debate and advice.
