We wish to advise all our parents of our plan of action during inclement weather, especially as the weather forecast looks as though snow could be with us in the next few days.
We will post messages on the HOMEPAGE ALERT box of our website (www.princesshelenacollege.co.uk) by 6.45am at the latest. Click on the link for more details.
PHC always remains open in snowy weather as we are a boarding school, and we endeavour to operate as full a timetable as possible. On rare occasions; PHC transport is unable to run due to dangerous conditions on the roads. The decision not to run school transport is based on advice from the bus company we use. This will be communicated via the website and text message to relevant parents.
Parents who drive their daughters to school each morning will need to make the decision as to whether to make the journey; we recommend the main Gosmore route is used as this road is gritted by Hertfordshire Highways. If large numbers of girls cannot travel to school by bus, work will be or posted on the website or emailed to girls on their school accounts. Please telephone the main school switchboard (01462 432100) to advise whether your daughter(s) will be absent or email emadden@princesshelenacollege.co.uk
Warm drinks will be available for all girls in the dining hall on their arrival. Girls should be in uniform but ought to wear additional layers for warmth.
Girls are welcome to board and parents can send spare clothes/bedding etc. in case of a last minute change of decision if heavy snow falls during the school day.
Yours sincerely
Selected girls from Years 7, 8 and 9 visited the British Library to take part in two research workshops, which included a study of the wonderful Royal Manuscript exhibition, currently being shown.
This term, PHC's younger boarders have begun to work towards the new Boarding Skills Award. This is a scheme launched by the Boarding Schools' Association which recognises many of the important soft skills learnt in a boarding setting, such as team work, leadership and compromise.
PHC is one of only ten boarding schools in the UK which are involved in piloting the scheme and Year 7 and 8 boarders have been busy tackling their first challenges with great enthusiasm.
