Ellie Giles (Year 13) has spent another weekend training with the Wales under 19 squad in preparation for the World Cup in Hamburg in August.
Ellie started playing when she joined PHC in Year 7 and reached the Wales trials in April 2010 after three years in the England Centex programme.
Ellie, whose paternal grandmother was Welsh, was delighted when she got through the two days of intensive trials: "I couldn't really believe it when they announced I was in. I had to go and check my name!"
The preparation is intensive, with training in Cardiff and at Monmouth University or Warwick University every month. There is also an intensive fitness programme which is updated every two weeks and is described by Ellie as "sometimes fun"! Ellie also joined the team on their tour in July. They played ex-first division US teams and university teams, along with the Munich. "It was really different to play hearing another language," commented Ellie. Wales performed very strongly, finishing third overall.
