All pupils take a GCSE short course (half a GCSE) in Information Technology in Year 10. This course covers Wordprocessing, Spreadsheets, Databases, Desktop Publishing, Graphics, Web Publishing and the application of such packages together with Information Systems and their application to society. The examination consists of a written theory examination (40%) and a coursework assignment (60%).

There are two courses offered in Information Technology at A level– AS and A2 . They aim to consolidate and expand existing practical I.T. skills. The work will be done using a PC based computer system, which the majority of students will encounter in the workplace and during further education.

AS - Information Technology
The one year course uses a task-driven approach to problem solving and decision making which relies on the effective use of Information Technology systems; it aims to enhance the student's role as a communicator and adviser. Wherever possible, teaching/learning strategies will be achieved through the practical use of I.T. resources to perform useful tasks and solve realistic problems.

Examination: Assessment will be by written examinations at the end of each year and by the production of a portfolio of practical work. The portfolio will be developed as the course progresses.

A2 - Information Technology
The A2 modules and assessment units will be more demanding than those in AS. These units will require the students to develop the knowledge acquired in the AS and apply it to a variety of contexts.
