PCC - PSHE, Citizenship & Careers

Personal, social and health education, citizenship and careers education form a valuable part of the school's  curriculum.

Personal, Social and Health Education covers three main areas:

  1. Developing relationships: which covers feelings, relationships, bullying, divided families, as well as tolerance, prejudice and discrimination.
  2. Keeping healthy includes advice on your body, your mental heath, eating, exercise, illness, smoking, drinking, drugs, safety, contraception and STDs.
  3. Understanding yourself discusses issues such as self-esteem, self confidence, self awareness as well as assertive, aggressive and passive behaviour. It also explores your identity and personal stances, forming opinions and making decisions.

Citizenship

The citizenship aspect of this course is designed to develop pupils as a good citizen in the World, Country, Community and as part of your family. These classes' discus values, the law and the police, the media, conflict, changes in society/cultures, the economy and money matters such as managing finances and the impact your consumer choices have on society. This course is very wide ranging covering: school as a community, local government, political parties and national government and global issues such as poverty, human rights issues and sustainable development.

Careers
The careers section of this course aims to help all pupils understand what their career aspirations are and how they can realize them. Students will be taught to identify their strongest and weakest intelligences and to learn how to develop them. They will be introduced to study skills, time management, examination techniques, revision habits, interview skills, self presentation and problem solving. They will also go through a process of regularly reviewing their progress, setting targets and making decisions. For more details please see the careers section.
