Sixth Form Introduction

Life in our sixth form offers unique opportunities for girls moving up through the school and for students from outside the college.

The sixth form is a vibrant and energetic community where students thrive in their activities, responsibilities and their thought provoking lessons.

Our main aims are for our students to:

• achieve their very best exam results
• foster a love of learning and a spirit of enquiry that will stay with them throughout their life
• enjoy their time in the sixth form and to establish strong friendships
• develop independence in learning and in opinions
• accumulate varied and impressive records of achievement accrue a strong and wide ranging set of skills that will prepare them for University, the workplace and life in general.

The sixth form provides an excellent stepping stone between school and university. As the sixth form is part of the school it offers:

• An atmosphere of support with a good level of discipline and dedicated tutors that will help all students to achieve their very best exam results.
  
• A rich variety of experiences and extra curricular activities. Having the opportunity to take part or perform in these activities increase confidence and self belief, as well as enhancing understanding of the wider community. It also provides excellent material for UCAS forms.
  
• The opportunity (via the prefect team) to take an important role in the running and management of the school. This responsibility encourages independence and initiative, as well as business skills through working as part of a team and managing others.
  
• The chance to board – which is excellent provision for university; preparing students to be tolerant of others, to become accustomed to living away from home and to manage their own daily routine.
  
• Sixth formers also enjoy a wider scope of freedom which helps them to prepare for adult life. Students are actively encouraged to: become independent learners and to take responsibility for managing their time and their learning to provide a sound base for studying at University.
  
• Learn skills such as money management, teamwork, effective communications, problem solving, domestic management (cookery, DIY, mechanical skills) and to be aware of health issues and personal safety.
  
• Broad social networks through involvement in activities with boys and girls from other schools and by greater interaction with the community
